Ross Swimming Pool Celebrates Major Carbon Reduction Thanks to Solar Project!
At Halo Leisure, we are fully committed to supporting green initiatives and reducing our carbon footprint across all our centres. Today, we are thrilled to share the fantastic environmental impact of the solar panels installed at the Ross Swimming Pool in March 2025.
This vital project was part-funded by Sport England through its Swimming Pool Support Fund, helping us make a major splash in the local fight against climate change.
Powering Change through the Sun
By harnessing solar energy, we have seen a material reduction in the grid electricity needed to run and heat the pool facilities. In 2025, the centre’s grid electricity consumption dropped by an incredible 42,576 kWh compared to 2024. This equates to an 18.6% overall reduction in our annual electricity use.
What Does This Mean for the Environment?
We know that kilowatt-hours (kWh) can sound like technical jargon. To put this massive energy saving into perspective, here is the real-world impact this project has had on our environment over the last year:
- Carbon Emissions Saved: Based on the UK electricity grid’s current carbon intensity, we have prevented approximately 8.8 tonnes (8,800 kg) of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
- Tree Planting Power: This carbon reduction has the same environmental impact as planting over 400 tree seedlings and letting them grow for a decade!
Working for a Greener Future
We are incredibly proud to ensure that while our members and local community are working on their fitness and wellbeing in the water, we are working hard behind the scenes on the wellbeing of our planet.
