We deliver thousands of life saving swimming skills to children and adults, and there’s still time before the holidays come around and pools beckon.

Remember, too, that we offer free swimming skills assessments for children so our expert team can advise parents and carers on their water confidence and the lessons they need to keep them safe.

But even if you consider yourself and your children water confident, if you’re on holiday, or enjoying a day out near open water, remember key rules. Too many children drown after simply playing in or near water or when they wander away from parents and fall into a pool.

  1. Never leave children near open water. Stay with them and always go into the water with them so you can help if they get into trouble.
  2. Even if water seems shallow or your kids are good swimmers, bear in mind that hidden currents and cold temperatures can impact on an ability to swim and/or call for help. You also have to beware unclear deep spots, hidden rubbish including broken glass, and slippery or steep banks which can make it difficult to get out.
  3. If you’re using a pool, even one with a lifeguard, stay close so you know where they are and what they are doing. Inflatables aren’t a substitute.
