Based at Halo Hereford Leisure Centre, the track is the only 400-metre floodlit synthetic track in Herefordshire and has been a cornerstone of athletic activity since its establishment in 1988. However, after 34 years of service, the track has reached the end of its expected lifespan, prompting a crucial need for refurbishment and maintenance.

Halo Leisure, in collaboration with Herefordshire Athletics Association, the local community and other partners, are proud to announce the successful securing of £600,000 to undertake comprehensive renovations. This substantial investment will not only revitalise the track but also bring it up to modern standards, ensuring it remains a focal point for athletic excellence in Herefordshire.

The works will address the track's deteriorated surface, using UK Athletics-endorsed products incorporating cutting-edge materials and technology. Additionally, enhancements will be made to the field event areas, guaranteeing their suitability for future competitions and training sessions.

Herefordshire Athletics Association was the driving force behind the initial Crowdfunding fundraising efforts and encouraged the running and business community to come together to raise just over £32,000 . Financial support from Hereford City Council, Herefordshire Council, UK Government Community Ownership Fund, Sport England and England Athletics also made this project possible.

Halo is pleased to have appointed South Wales Sports Grounds as the main contractor and together finalising the finer details of the project. Halo anticipates the works will commence in the early part of March 2024. It is expected that the renovations will take approximately twelve weeks, with the refurbished facility set to welcome athletes and enthusiasts alike towards the end of June.

As the track prepares to embark on its next chapter, excitement mounts for the opportunities and achievements it will bring for generations to come. Visit Halo leisures website or Hereford Leisure Centres’ facebook to keep up to date with the progress.
