Environmental Policy

We recognise the need to protect our environment and use natural resources and prudently across all of the services we provide. A sustainable environment is one of the key elements of The Herefordshire plan, the regeneration process to which Herefordshire Council is committed.

Halo is committed to:

• Demonstrating continual improvement of our environmental performance to minimise adverse affects on the environment

• Compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations

• Using our influence to actively encourage responsible environmental practice by our suppliers and contractors, and raise awareness of these issues among the general public and partners

• Working with other partner organisations (Herefordshire Council) to meet its obligations under ISO 14001

In particular, we will:

• Prevent pollution and minimise waste from our operations

• Make efficient use of natural resources, including energy

• Promote environmental awareness, understanding and capabilities among staff, suppliers and contractors

• Make this policy available for all staff, suppliers, contractors, partners and the general public via induction training, notice boards, direct mail, libraries, website and so on

• Seek to ensure through the budget process that staff have the necessary resources and training to meet the requirements of this policy and the environmental management system

• Set formal objectives, for which named managers are responsible, to build improved environmental performance across our activities

• Develop and manage an environmental management system (EMS) for all activities and services, seeking certification to ISO 14001

• Formally audit the EMS and then review its progress revising procedures, objectives and targets wherever necessary to improve on performance
