New Beginnings at Much Wenlock

Halo Leisure to Proudly Serve Much Wenlock: A New 10-Year Partnership

We are thrilled to officially share some fantastic news for the Shropshire community: Halo Leisure has been appointed to manage the Much Wenlock Leisure Centre starting April 1st, 2026.

This announcement comes after months of collaborative work between William Brookes School, The 3-18 Education Trust, and Shropshire Council. The centre had been at risk of closure due to the withdrawal of council funding, but this new 10-year partnership secures its future for students and the public alike.

Much Wenlock holds a special place in sporting history as the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games. As the only Coubertin School in the UK, William Brookes School operates under the vision of “healthy body, healthy mind”—a philosophy we are proud to support. By stepping in as the operational partner, we are committed to protecting this unique legacy and ensuring the “heartbeat” of the school continues to thrive.

What This Means for You

Whether you are a student at William Brookes School or a local resident, the facilities you love are here to stay. We will continue to operate:

  • The 25m swimming pool.

  • The gym and fitness suite.

  • The sports hall.

Our CEO, Scott Rolfe, is excited to bring Halo’s social enterprise model to Much Wenlock. As Scott puts it:

Our social enterprise business model and registered charity status allows us to trade for social purposes and ‘not for profit’… we are confident that, together, we can transform services and facilities for the benefit of local residents and get more people more active more often.

We are eager to build on the high standards already set by the school and the Trust. We look forward to working with the existing dedicated staff and welcoming both old and new faces to the centre very soon.
