Highworth Town Walking Football Club for Over 65’s Claims Division and Cup Glory

The Over 65’s team have had a very successful couple of months. After winning Division 2 of the Thames Valley Walking Football League last season they went one better this season, winning Division 1 in June. Next up was winning a mini cup tournament in Abingdon early July.

They then played a 16 team Cup competition held at Bisham Abbey in July having reached the semi finals last year. After beating Oxford, Slough, Portsmouth and Bicester in a mini league, they beat Wycome in the Semis and finally beat Bracknell (who were also unbeaten up to then) in the Final. A brilliant result in a very tough competition.

On 20 July they won the Wiltshire League by avoiding defeat in their final game. July 28th saw them beat Eastleigh 2 – 0 in the South West Regional Final of the National Cup on a scorching hot Sunday.

The Over 65’s team went to Nottingham for the National Finals on September 1st where they played against other Regional Finalists finishing 3rd after a very close-run event where on another day they could have won. Finishing 3rd in the country is still a great achievement.

The following weekend the Over 50’s ended up 4th competing in their age group National Finals. Another great achievement.
