Did you know that Sunday March 8 is International Women’s Day (IWD) when this worldwide campaign will be championing equality and how, collectively, we can help create a gender equal world?
Here at Halo that starts with sport. IWD love, as we do, that we’re seeing increased media attention, TV coverage and sponsorship for women’s teams and champions. Watch the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Melbourne, Australia on March 8 to celebrate. It’s predicted to be the biggest women’s cricket match to date (with Katy Perry performing at the celebrations).
But we also love, as the IWD team does, that this move for equality is coming from grassroots sport, too. From marathons and fun runs that promote women’s health (like Race for Life) to the increasing opportunity to play sport with other women (netball, hockey, rugby, footy and cricket) in towns across the country, to gyms and classes that are seeing more women working out together more regularly than ever.
Why not make your stand for IWD in March? If you aren’t already a member why not pick up a free seven-day pass for you and a friend and (after you’ve watched the cricket) come in and explore why exercise can be one of the greatest tools in our fight for equality. Share your experience using the hashtag #haloleisure and IWD’s #EachforEqual. And remember this campaign may start on Sunday 8, but it doesn’t stop then. Let’s run it all year long.
