And the winner of the Halo Centre of the Year 2019 is… Highworth Recreation Centre
Customers are greeted with a smile and their first name - giving a real community feel to the place and placing the centre amongst the top of Halo’s customer service rankings. With every aspect of operations from front of house, swimming lessons, gym workouts, group exercise classes, health and safety, housekeeping to maintenance being carried out to the highest standards - it is no surprise that Highworth is the 2019 centre of the year. And the winner of Halo Leisure’s Manager of the Year 2019 is... Sian Thomas from Ross-On-Wye Swimming Pool
As manager of a centre with a gym, group exercise studio, sauna, steam room and pool with 750 children on swimming lessons - Sian certainly has her hands full! Her drive and passion for her and the team to be the ‘best’ saw Ross Swimming Pool win Halo’s Centre of the Year in 2017 and 2018 and shortlisted for a national ‘Leisure Centre of the Year’ award, which is a testament to her commitment and hard work over the years. Her attention to detail, constant support and encouragement for the team, strategic mindset coupled with her hands on style makes her a standout leader popular with staff and customers alike. Nothing is too much trouble for Sian when it comes to getting people more active.
And the winner of Halo’s Customer Choice Award (Bridgend County & Highworth) 2019 is... Jordan Smith from Ogmore Valley Life Centre
What can we say - the staff and customers at Halo Ogmore just love Jordan.
One customer summed it up perfectly... “Nothing is too much trouble for Jordan, he deserves this award so much” Customers first encounter Jordans friendly and professional manner when he greets them at reception. Then as a group exercise instructor he makes every customer who attends his fitness classes feel welcomed, supported and motivated. His other role as a fitness instructor in the gym allows Jordan to offer advice and guidance, putting everyone at ease and helping them get the most out of their workout. He has helped hundreds of local people of all ages and abilities to introduce physical activity into their lives and maintain the exercise habit. And the winner of Halo’s Customer Choice (Shropshire) Award is… Jack Noakes from The Severn Centre, Highley
“Remarkable, highly competent, superb customer service skills, friendly, incredibly helpful, an absolute credit for your company” - with customer compliments like these, how could we not award Jack this accolade. Nothing is too much trouble for Jack when it comes to helping local people get more active more often. His hard work and enthusiasm for swimming ensures local residents, families and tourists can enjoy a visit to the outdoor pool. We would like to thank Jack for his role in helping more people get more active more often.
And the winner of Halo’s Customer Choice (Herefordshire) Award is... Wendy Vaughan from Hereford Leisure Centre
From the first time you step into the Toning Suite at Hereford Leisure Centre Wendy is there to with a warm smile and welcome. Her empathy and understanding that exercise can be challenging is outstanding. She has helped hundreds of local people of all ages and abilities to introduce physical activity into their lives and maintain the exercise habit. She makes every workout enjoyable and her advice, guidance and encouragement keeps customers coming back time and time again. Customers have described her as a ‘gem’, ‘inspirational’ and a ‘credit to Halo’. We would like to thank Wendy for her role in helping Halo achieve its vision of ‘Creating Healthier Communities’.
And the winner of Halo’s Employee of the Year 2019 is… Rhian Roberts from Ogmore Valley Life Centre
Reliable, always in control, committed, helpful, passionate, caring, knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra mile - are just a few of the ways her colleagues would describe her. For almost 20 years Rhian as played a key role in the development and success at the Centre. She has been the driving force behind the Olympage initiative which supports older member of the community to get socially and physically active. She is a great role model to everyone around her and we feel honoured to have her as part of the team. We would like to thank Rhian in helping Halo to achieve our vision of ‘Creating Healthier Communities’.
And the winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award is... Charlie Watkins from Hereford Leisure Pool
Charlie knows first hand how challenging exercise can be if you have an injury but also its crucial role in getting back on your feet and managing your medical condition. A major operation on her neck didn’t dampen her enthusiasm for group exercise - after a few adjustments which supported her recovery and allowed her to carry on teaching, she was back in the exercise studio doing what she does best - encouraging groups of people (and Charlie has a massive following) to get more active one class at a time. We are humbled by the determination and ‘can do’ attitude of Charlie - she is indeed an inspiration to her everyone she comes into contact with and we would like to thank Charlie for everything she does to help Halo achieve our vision of ‘Creating Healthier Communities’.
And the winner of Halo Leisure’s Innovation Champion 2019 is…Ivor Anthony from Ogmore Valley Life Centre.
As an organisation innovation is at our core. We are always looking at new ways to help us meet our vision of “Creating Healthier Communities”. As Customer Services Manager, Ivor is constantly coming up with new ideas, services and partnerships to help more people get more active more often. He is particularly passionate about opening up leisure opportunities for children and operates the most popular and imaginative children's holiday activity programmes - enriching the lives of literally hundreds of local children. He uses his vast experience in the sector to really make a difference by using sport and physical activity as a vehicle for individual, community and social development. We feel honoured and proud to have such a committed and passionate member of staff on our team.
And the winner of Halo’s Barista of the Year 2019 is… Alex Davies from Hereford Leisure Pool.
People visit our centres as much for the social side as much as they do for the exercise - and for many that means a trip to the cafe. What better way to wind down after your workout than with a relaxing hot drink. Alex from the cafe at Hereford Leisure Pool has been recognised by our coffee supplier Paddy and Scott’s as a coffee champion but more importantly she is recognised by the people she serves as being friendly and welcoming. Thank you Alex for helping to ‘fuel’ friendship and fitness amongst customers and staff.
And the winner of Halo Leisure’s Health and Safety Award is… Bridgend Life Centre.
Health and Safety is rarely the “glamour” topic and it can be easy to mock and make jokes of “Elf and Safety”. Looking after employees welfare and ensuring customers are safe is at the forefront for Halo Leisure especially at Bridgend Life Centre. The team work tirelessly to make sure the facilities are clean, safe and welcoming for the customers who visit the gym, pool, softplay, library, indoor climbing wall, toning suite, exercise studios, bowls and sports hall. Well done all and keep up the outstanding work!
When Halo finds a great member of staff who goes that extra mile to help get more people more active more often, we want to hang on to them and are delighted to have had these fantastic colleagues as part of the team for 25 years.
