A New Lease of Life: Alan’s Journey Through the Joint Care Programme
Alan began the Joint Care Programme in June 2025, completing it in September. He was initially referred by his physiotherapist to manage pain and arthritis in his hips and knees, alongside a pre-diabetic diagnosis.
Throughout the programme, Alan gained valuable knowledge, particularly about the traffic light system for nutrition and how to read food labels accurately. He remarked that he hadn’t realised the importance of this before, confessing he had “ignored it for years” and “never knew I was doing so much wrong.”
He found the practical cooking sessions extremely helpful for generating new lunch ideas. After making wraps in the first session, Alan enjoyed them so much he joked he “could live off them.” With support from his wife, he has successfully cut down on chocolate and biscuits.
By the end of the programme, Alan’s hard work yielded significant results. Follow-up tests confirmed he was no longer pre-diabetic—an achievement that delighted him. Furthermore, Alan lost 6.4kg and 6cm from his waistline. His quality of life, as measured by our standardised questionnaire, also showed a marked improvement.
