Hello From Halo – the new people behind Much Wenlock Leisure Centre
We are an award winning social enterprise and registered charity with a head office in Leominster, and we are bringing our expertise in getting more people more active to Much Wenlock and surrounding areas.
There are exciting plans for the leisure facility thanks to a new partnership between William Brookes School, The 3-18 Trust and Halo Leisure. The partnership means the school will still own the building and facilities and will have a big say on how they are run and developed, especially when it comes to what’s on offer. Award-winning social enterprise Halo Leisure will be responsible for managing and maintaining the leisure centre for the next 10 years, starting on 1st April 2026. The centre’s 25m swimming pool, sports hall, gym and fitness suite will continue to serve both William Brookes students and the general public.
For over twenty years, Halo Leisure has helped the people of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Gloucestershire, Stratford, Bridgend County, Merthyr Tydfil, Torfaen County, Worcestershire and Wiltshire to live a healthier and more active life by managing leisure centres and swimming pools on behalf of the local community.
Scott Rolfe, Halo’s Chief Executive, said, “We are delighted to be selected by the school as the operational partner in the delivery of their leisure services. Our social enterprise business model and registered charity status allows us to trade for social purposes and ‘not for profit’, something the school recognised as a sign of quality and strength. We will continue to support even more local people to participate in some form of exercise, increase the range of activities available to them and invest in the leisure facilities at the
school. We are confident that, together, we can transform services and facilities for the benefit of local residents and get more people more active more often”.
Halo is a social enterprise and registered charity. This means that we don’t have shareholders, and any surplus money is put back into the services and facilities. This helps to keep costs low and offer outstanding value for money so everyone can enjoy an exciting range of leisure opportunities.
Halo has won multiple national awards in recognition of its work to develop leisure opportunities for local communities.
The management of Much Wenlock Leisure Centre is moving to Halo Leisure on April 1st. To keep your access to the facilities running smoothly, we’ve put together a few quick updates below:
Memberships & Swimming Lessons – What happens to my current Direct Debit?
Your agreement and payments will NOT automatically transfer to Halo. You must manually cancel your current Direct Debit with Much Wenlock Leisure Centre to avoid being charged after April 1st.
How do I join Halo for Gym and Swim at Much Wenlock Leisure Centre?
You can set up your new membership in two ways:

Don’t forget to pick up your Halo membership card from reception, and be sure to swipe in for every activity so we can record your attendance.
How do I continue my swimming lessons?
Important Update: A Simpler Way to Swim
We’re evolving! To make managing your lessons easier, we are moving away from the current “10-lesson block” system. We are introducing a monthly rolling agreement payable by Direct Debit.
Why the change?

Set it and forget it: No more manual payments or worrying about when your current block expires.

Guaranteed placement: Your spot in the lesson is automatically secured every month. Lessons are delivered 50 weeks of the year!

Easier budgeting: Spread the cost of lessons into predictable monthly payments.
We are reviewing and enhancing the learn to swim timetable to align it with Swim England standards; this means your current lesson day and time may change.
You can sign up for swimming lessons at the centre or over the phone from 1st April. Please call us at 01432 842075. Our team will confirm prices, check availability and help you set up a new agreement with Halo.

I have an existing block booking (Pool, Sports Hall, or Pitch). What should I do?
There is nothing you need to do! The Halo Bookings Team is currently reviewing existing bookings and will contact you directly to discuss continuing your agreement.
How do I make a new booking for the future?
If you are looking to book a facility for the first time, please complete the Facilities for Hire form, and a member of the team will be in touch to assist you.
Unlike many leisure operators we don’t believe in lengthy contracts. All we ask is that you give 28 days notice before your next direct debit payment is due if you want to leave – but with so many activities, why would you?

As part of our £75,000.00 transformation and commitment to modernising the centre, we have moved to a cashless payment system. This change allows us to streamline our check-in process and focus our resources on providing the best possible service poolside and in the gym. Please ensure you have a card or contactless device ready when visiting us for pay-as-u-go sessions.
Halo has 32 sites, the nearest to Much Wenlock being in Bridgnorth, the Severn Centre at Highley or Craven Arms Community Centre. You can enjoy the activities on offer at other Halo facilities on a pay-as-u-play basis, or you can opt for an Active Shropshire membership, which gives access to all Halo centres in the county.

Exciting Renovations Coming Soon!
We have big plans to enhance the facilities at Much Wenlock Leisure Centre, starting with a complete £75k transformation of the Gym – thanks to funding from Shropshire Council’s Community Levy funding pot and Halo Leisure.

Your fully refurbished gym will be ready for you to enjoy from April 2026.
We’ll be closing the gym doors for a few days from Monday, 30th March to Wednesday, 1st April while we work our magic on the make-over. We’ll be back and better than ever on Thursday, 2nd April at 5:00 PM.
Next Phase: The Pool
Once the gym is complete, we are turning our attention to the aquatic facilities. In the Summer of 2026, the poolside changing rooms will receive a total refresh. Additionally, we will be installing a new pool cover to significantly improve our energy efficiency.

Pupils in Year 7 upwards can enjoy gym workouts and swimming by taking out a Halo membership.
Staff – The 3-18 Trust, who manage the school, has negotiated a membership deal for staff. Watch out for an update from the school soon.

The existing Shropshire Leisure Time app for Much Wenlock Leisure Centre is hanging up its sneakers as Halo Leisure takes over the management of Much Wenlock Leisure Centre. To keep your favourite activities on the calendar, it’s almost time to make the switch! We will let you know when the Much Wenlock Leisure Centre app has been built so you can download it.
