Celebrating the 10th annual National Apprenticeships Week March 6th - 10th!
We’re delighted that a growing number of Halo’s health and fitness team have found a career they love. They might have started as volunteers, parent helpers, or part-timers in our centres, and you’ll see them now teaching classes, training to be lifeguards, and providing personal fitness advice. One of our newest initiatives – apprenticeships – has welcomed a number of new recruits.
Our apprenticeship pathway offers Level 2 NVQ in Activity Leadership, English and Maths Functional Skills qualifications and the chance to do an NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Active Leisure which can lead to a qualification with a professional body like The FA or British Gymnastics. You can meet one of its recruits Larissa Mason below, or contact us at email@example.com if you want to find out more. Meet one of Halo’s apprentices!
Name: Larissa Mason
Came to Halo: July 2016 on the apprenticeship scheme. I really wanted to work in sport and leisure – I love swimming, running, yoga and the gym – and found this opportunity at Halo through a job search agency. I was over the moon when I was given a job here. This will give me a qualification – a Level 2 NVQ in Activity Leadership – while doing a job I love. There’s theory and practical, and a trainer comes in to assess me. Bridgnorth’s a lovely centre and I am getting experience across the board – on reception, as a leisure assistant and some teaching in classes. I love teaching the exercise classes and am hoping to work here full time when the apprenticeship finishes.
Biggest surprise: A leisure centre like this one offers so much – everything from support to quit smoking to the opportunity to learn a sport, advice on weight loss to training for events. It’s nice to be a part of that.
Biggest benefit: The career progression; the fact I’ll come out of this year with a qualification. And I get free membership of Halo while I am here. In my spare time I am training for a fundraising swim in Bulgaria (we swim from one island to another) and a Tough Mudder challenge (a military style obstacle course) in Scotland. It’s a busy time.
