Our team of trained Swim Wales swimming teachers offer a superb inclusive swimming programme at our five pools in Bridgend County. The programme's available to children (from four months of age), and the classes ensure improved water confidence and swimming technique while allowing them to progress without pressure at their own pace.   

We are offering a free swimming skills assessment for children with one of our qualified swimming instructors - a gentle, fun session to assess your child's confidence in water, and to advise parents or carers on the next step in developing the young persons swimming ability and confidence in the water and the lessons they need to keep them safe. Adult and child lessons at Bridgend Life Centre - for 4 months - 36 months
The graduated sloping floor into the swimming pool at Bridgend Life Centre makes this an ideal pool to introduce your baby to the water. Adults join the little ones in the water to play and exercise to music with a team of new water buddies. We'll help your growing toddler to swim using games, toys and floats.

Pre-school lessons for 3-4 year olds at Bridgend Life Centre

We'll help your growing toddler to swim, with the aid of fun, games, floats and four grades of colourful Swim Wales Foundation Framework Splash Award badges to achieve along the way. Watch them reach for the top award as they jump, duck under and swim five metres unaided. Lesson duration is 30 minutes

These sessions are 30 minutes. You can join the programme at any time. You need to book and pay in advance (by direct debit) and cost £19 per month or £14 for families qualifying for certain means tested benefits. Children also get free access to any public swim session if they pay by direct debit.

Splash lessons - for 4 years +

Working within the ASA foundation framework your child will work towards Swim Wales awards which will prepare them for our mainstream learn to swim programme. Half hour lessons running at the centres below during the following times:

Group lessons for children from 4 years

Half hour sessions for children who are confident enough to get in the pool without you. They'll work (at their own pace) through seven stages to become confident, competent swimmers and then have the opportunity to move to stages 8 - 10 to develop additional skills like water polo. Weekdays from 3.30pm with weekend morning and afternoon lessons available.

Welsh lessons available at Maesteg Swimming Pool Mondays 4 - 6pm (waves 1 & 2)

You can join the programme at any time. You need to book and pay in advance (by direct debit) for a block of up to 13 weeks so £19 per month or £14 for families qualifying for certain means tested benefits. Children also get free access to any public swim session if they pay by direct debit.

One-to-one lessons

Benefit from half an hours individual attention from a Halo swimming instructor. A great way to reinforce what is being taught in a group lesson or for children who enjoy a more personal, bespoke approach.

One-to-one lessons: £70 a month via Direct Debit for a weekly 30 minute session.

Learn to Swim crash courses

We often run crash courses during school holidays. Ideal if you want to improve technique, confidence and water skills in a short period of time.

Keep an eye on facebook for the FREE crash courses we offer to children not already enrolled on a learn to swim programme.

For children who have achieved stage 7

Water Polo

This maybe the most fun kids will ever have in a pool, learning water skills while competing in teams of seven. They’ll develop good all-over body strength and strong swimming skills. If they already play team games and enjoy swimming then they'll love Water Polo.

Ynysawdre Swimming Pool, every Saturday 3 - 4pm

Rookie Lifesaving

The Rookie Lifeguard programme is a fun and exciting water safety award scheme (bronze, silver and gold) which follows the syllabus set by the RLSS (Royal Lifesaving Society) teaching children personal survival skills before moving on to rescue techniques and resuscitation.

Monday 4 - 6pm (Splash level 1 & 2 & Waves 1 & 2)

Each session lasts 30 minutes. 

Children can join the lessons at any time. You need to book and pay in advance by direct debit. This works out £19 per month or £14 per month for families qualifying for concessionary rates (families on certain means tested benefits). Children also get free access to any public swim session when they pay by direct debit.

FREE Swimming - there are 3 ways you can splash for no cash:

  1. Children paying for their swimming lessons by direct debit can swim for FREE at any public swimming session.
  2. Under 17’s and over 60’s can swim for FREE as part of the Welsh Government’s Free Swimming Initiative (FSI).  

  3. FREE Swim Sessions.
